About the role
As a Founding AI Engineer focused on full-stack development, you will build the product around Kanan’s AI capabilities. Your work will span user interfaces, backend services, databases, and integrations, with ownership from early design through deployment and ongoing operation.
You will work directly with the founding team and business users to understand how information moves between manufacturers and financial institutions. The challenge is to turn fragmented documents, data, and working practices into clear, dependable software. You will collaborate with the Applied AI Engineer on model integration and with the CSO and Data Scientist on bringing validated capabilities into the product. You will help establish engineering practices that keep the product understandable, testable, and easy for future team members to extend.
Responsibilities
- Build customer-facing applications and backend services that make complex information understandable and help users complete their work efficiently.
- Design databases, APIs, and workflows for supplier, order, document, and risk information, with clear relationships and maintainable interfaces.
- Integrate documents, spreadsheets, enterprise systems, and external data sources, and own the production pipelines that keep this information usable.
- Bring AI capabilities into practical workflows with access controls, source traceability, human review, and clear handling of incomplete or failed results.
- Own deployment, automated testing, monitoring, security, and production reliability, and improve the system as usage and integration needs grow.
Required qualifications
- Experience building and shipping full-stack software, with strong backend fundamentals and evidence of maintaining systems after they reach users.
- Proficiency in Python and JavaScript or TypeScript, relational databases, and API development, with sound judgement about data modelling and system design.
- Experience integrating AI models into real applications and handling the latency, errors, costs, and testing requirements that come with them.
- Ability to understand customer workflows, communicate technical tradeoffs clearly, and take features from design through deployment without a large support team.
Preferred experience
- Experience with enterprise software, fintech, or supply-chain technology and the integration needs of business customers.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, application security, or an early-stage engineering team where you owned substantial parts of a product.
